As of 4 PM today, it's officially baseball season in my head
I am not yet sure what to make of the Mets' signing of Tim "lightning storms lit up all downtown" Redding.
Tim Marchman makes a good case for Redding's adequacy, but I'd feel better about the Mets' rotation if Redding was a sixth starter/swingman rather than the fifth starter. Maybe I overestimated the Mets' budget or underestimated the market for Derek Lowe and Oliver Perez, but I still thought there was a chance the Mets could get both. Even if that wasn't possible, I don't see what the rush was to sign Redding. Couldn't the Mets have waited until the actual good pitchers on the market had signed before they settled for less? Redding's more useful than a lot of the fill-ins the Mets have had to turn to in the last few years, but I would prefer they not count on him to be more than that.
