Expos 10, Mets 0
Ugh. The second start of
David Cone's comeback didn't go quite as well as the first. Cone went just four innings and gave up seven runs, all of them in the third. The tiny Puerto Rican ballpark could not contain the Expos' explosive bats and this game was over quickly.
The Mets' offense reached new depths of ineptitude, only managing one hit in eight innings against Montreal starter
Tomo Ohka before a veritable rally in the ninth innings saw them get a single hit against
Scott Stewart in his only inning of work.
Roger Cedeno was in the leadoff spot again, and actually managed to get one of the Mets' hits (the one in the ninth) as well as a walk. He also got caught stealing, though, just to make sure everyone realized his utter uselessness.
Cliff Floyd got the other hit. And
Ty Wigginton, the only Met starter hitting above .250, got a pair of walks in 3 plate appearances. Add a
Roberto Alomar walk, and you've got the entire Mets offensive output for the night and a good explanation of how they failed to put any runs on the board.
Mike Piazza had the night off and
Vance Wilson went 0 for 3 in his place.
Tomorrow, the Mets try to forget this ever happened, sending
Jae Seo to the mound against
Livan Hernandez. Piazza will likely be back in the lineup. Sadly, Cedeno will too.
