It looks like the
Mets picked the right one. While
Tom Glavine rebounded from his disappointing Opening Day start, former Atlanta Braves teammate
Greg Maddux got rocked again, this time by the big sticks of the Florida Marlins. Maddux gave up eight hits and nine runs, seven of them earned, including three home runs, all in just two innings. In a fun illustration of just how inept he looked tonight, after surrendering homers to both
Ivan Rodriguez and
Mike Lowell in the second, he intentionally walked
Todd Hollandsworth of all people to get to light-hitting shortstop
Alex Gonzalez. Gonzalez of course proceeded to deposit the ball in the seats behind the outfield fence. Maddux's season ERA is now a healthy 11.00. The Braves' bullpen also gave up eight more runs over the final seven innings for a final score of 17-1. The Braves are now 1-4 and in last place in the NL East.
