Time for the Mets to play "Games"?
ESPN's Peter Gammons is reporting that outfielder
Milton Bradley (no relation) is on his way out of
Cleveland after a confrontation with manager Eric Wedge. Bradley was pulled from a game yesterday after failing to run out a fly ball and later allegedly "showed disrespect for his manager in front of his teammates."
Meanwhile, the
Mets have a couple of guys with their own behavioral issues likely to platoon in right field, neither of which has ever come close to the .321/.421/.501 line a 25 year old Bradley put up last year. Bradley will only make $1.7 million this year, and the publicity surrounding this incident and the team's desire to trade him can't be doing much for his trade value.
I don't know who exactly the Mets could or should give up in exchange for Bradley, but he would fill a gaping hole and the team has an abundance of starting and relief pitching, not all of whom will make the major league team. If the Mets could put together a package of one of their potential back of the rotation guys and maybe a couple of Jim Duquette's beloved minor league relievers, I'd love to see it.
Of course, if the Mets were willing to pay some of his salary and the Indians were desperate enough for a "proven veteran" to replace Bradley in the outfield, I guess I could part with
Roger Cedeno, too.
